Candlelight concert in Gdańsk. What does such an event look like?
In the era of gigantic stadium concerts and numerous mass events, audiences around the world have begun seeking musical tranquility. Candlelight concerts have turned out to be the answer to this need.
The history of a global phenomenon.
The modern format of concerts known as "Candlelight" was developed and launched in 2019 in Madrid by the international entertainment platform Fever. The main goal of the organizers was the democratization of access to classical music. For years, this genre was considered elite, and a visit to the philharmonic was often associated with strict protocol. The creators of the format decided to move the works of masters such as Vivaldi or Chopin to new spaces to attract a completely new, younger audience. Instead of traditional concert halls, they opted for venues representing the cultural heritage of a given space: historic churches, museums, palaces, and often rooftops of modern buildings or botanical gardens. Thanks to visually captivating social media campaigns, the trend quickly expanded beyond Spain, reaching New York, Paris, and soon after, Poland. However, what does such an event look like from the inside?

The architecture of mood - what do such events look like?
If you are going to a candlelight concert, first and foremost you must prepare for the presence of numerous LED candles, rather than classic wax candles. Due to very strict fire safety regulations and practical issues (for example, the smoke rising from burning wax can eventually lead to the soiling of other set design elements), organizers often abandon real candles. However, this brings a number of advantages. High-quality LED candles emit a warm light and have a flickering option, which creates a truly unique atmosphere.
Instead of a philharmonic - an intimate space
Pay attention to the venue where your event will take place. Although grand philharmonics or churches undoubtedly enhance the visual aspects of the concert, in the case of candlelight concerts, it is worth choosing smaller halls. This is very important because a traditional candlelight concert should also contain a certain element of intimacy. An intimate space also allows for closer contact with the artist and admiring the beautiful scenery up close.
Piano, violin, cello
The musical setting of candlelight concerts usually consists of a piano, but organizers also often opt for string instruments. Undoubtedly, a candlelight concert should be a form of relaxation and tranquility, so in its traditional version, it should not include singing or wind instruments.
A well-chosen program is essential
Also, pay attention to the concert program before deciding to buy a ticket. Candlelight concerts are not just classical music. In Gdańsk, there is also no shortage of unique arrangements, e.g., of rock music, played in exactly this setting. Always read the event description carefully before you decide on it. Pay attention to whether the pieces will be played by experienced musicians and whether the program consists of music that interests you. Although today the formula of candlelight concerts is perfectly known to a wider audience, it is worth familiarizing yourself with a few details that will bring the magic of this type of event closer to us.
